One strategy of teaching that can be very effective invites students to put themselves in the action and participate in the drama of the story. One way to use this technique in the story of the Israelites crossing the Red Sea is to invite the students to rewrite the song of deliverance (Exodus 15:1-18) using contemporary language. Then have them divide their “song” into parts and present it as a reader’s theater.
